Breast Cancer
So proud to be a woman today. I walked the 5K for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Race for a Cure. It was inspiring. Not only from the survivor aspect, which was awe-inspiring itself, but from a feminist point of view. These women are fighters. Blood and guts warriors. They don’t take this diagnosis laying down. They show up for battle and more and more women are winning. Amazing.
I was also impressed with those that take a stand against this disease who aren’t directly affected by it. We all understand that the next diagnosis could be our mothers, grandmothers, nieces, aunts, sisters or best friends. I truly believe that we will conquer this deadly invader. I believe that a cure is around the corner because of the hard work that so many women put into this cause. Women bond with each other. We care for one another. We have each others’ backs.
As I walked with two of my closest friends and my 8 year old niece, fear overtook me. What if its one of us? I have a lot of causes that I am passionate about, but that fear made me realize that I have a fight that is a lot closer to home. This is something that I can do to make a difference as well.
Such a great day…
